Consistent performance, easy renewal

I've been with OVHcloud for a few years now, mostly for their web hosting. This last renewal for my 'hébergement web' was as smooth as always. The service has been reliable, and I rarely have to think about it, which is exactly what I want. Their control panel still takes a bit of getting used to, but once you know where things are, it's fine. It's why I keep coming back.

Good value for Public Cloud

I was looking for some affordable cloud resources and the 'crédit public cloud offert' deal caught my eye. I got a good amount of credit when I signed up, which made testing out their 'public cloud' services very economical. It allowed me to get a feel for their platform without a big upfront cost. The performance was decent for the price, definitely felt like I got my money's worth. I'll probably stick with them for this project given the initial savings.

VPS setup was quick

Needed a VPS for a small project and decided to try OVHcloud. My brother-in-law mentioned they were pretty solid. Setting up the 'vps' was pretty straightforward, and it was ready to go surprisingly fast. Didn't run into any weird issues, which is always a plus. Good experience overall, got what I needed without any fuss.

K Kevin83 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer

A AlexandreG 1 week ago ✓ Best Answer
12
A AlexandreG 1 week ago

Just got an email about a 'crédit public cloud offert' for OVHcloud. Anyone know how to actually claim this? Is it automatically applied or do I need a code somewhere? Not seeing anything obvious in my control panel.

K KiranP 4 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Usually, for those 'crédit offert' deals, it's either automatically applied to your account if you meet the criteria (like being a new customer or for a specific promotion), or they send you a coupon code in the email itself. Check the fine print of the email very carefully, sometimes the code is hidden or there's a link to activate it.

S Sanjay_IT 4 weeks ago
Mine just showed up as a credit on my billing dashboard after a few days. No code needed.
7
D Deepak87 4 weeks ago
Yeah, I've seen that. Sometimes it's a click-through link that applies it. Did you click everything in the email?

I had one of those last month. It was a specific promo code I had to enter during the checkout process when spinning up a new Public Cloud instance, or sometimes in the 'My Account' -> 'Billing' -> 'Promotional Codes' section. It wasn't automatic for me.

G GamerRaj 4 weeks ago
Ah, okay. I'll check the promo codes section. Thanks!

Thinking of moving my WordPress site to OVHcloud. Currently on shared hosting elsewhere, but need more control and better performance. Is their managed WordPress hosting any good, or should I just go for a basic VPS and set it up myself?

D Deepak91 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
Honestly, if you have some technical know-how, go with a VPS. You'll get way more bang for your buck and complete control over your environment. OVH VPS plans are quite competitive, and you can optimize WordPress exactly how you need it. Plus, you learn a lot along the way.

A AnkitM 1 month ago
Totally agree. Managed is for convenience, VPS is for power. OVH's VPS SSD line is pretty solid.

S ServerMonkey 1 month ago
VPS is more work but worth it in the long run. Plus, you can scale it up easily if needed.

R RaviK 1 month ago
That's my leaning. Any recommendations for which VPS tier to start with for a medium-traffic blog?

P PriyaS 1 month ago
I've been on their managed WordPress for about a year now. It's... okay. Setup was super easy, and updates usually go smoothly. But I've had a few moments where it felt a bit sluggish, especially during peak traffic. Support was decent when I had a plugin conflict, but not super fast.
10
R RaviK 1 month ago
Sluggish during peak? That's what I'm trying to avoid. What kind of traffic are we talking?
1
T TechGuru77 1 month ago
Yeah, their 'managed' part sometimes feels more like 'barely managed'. For real control, VPS is the way to go.

I tried their WordPress hosting for a small client site. It was fine for a simple brochure site, but anything with dynamic content or lots of users struggled. Ended up moving it to a small dedicated server with them, which was overkill but performs great.

Dedicated server is a big jump for me right now. Just trying to get off shared.

thinking of getting a dedicated server but need it pretty quick. how long does it usually take for them to activate a dedicated server once ordered?

G Gwen 2 months ago
From my experience, dedicated server activation can vary a bit. Some are nearly instant if it's an 'on demand' type, others might take a few hours or even a day if they need to provision specific hardware. I'd budget for a day just to be safe.
6
T Tom W. 2 months ago
yeah, it's not like VPS which is usually instant. it can be a few hours, but I've never waited more than 24 for a standard dedicated server. depends on what you pick too.

hey, trying to set up a new website, is ovhcloud good for just basic web hosting or should I look somewhere else? like, compared to hostinger or gandi?

P Phil 1 month ago
OVH is solid for web hosting, especially if you care about data staying in Europe. I've used their basic plans for a few small sites and it's been pretty reliable. Hostinger is often cheaper to start but OVH feels more robust long-term.

A Amber 1 month ago
gandi's a bit more boutique, i think? ovhcloud has a huge range of stuff. depends on if you just want hosting or might scale up later to more cloud services. they do have good anti-ddos protection built-in too which is nice.

does ovhcloud do any cool deals for black friday? looking to get a new vps or maybe some cloud credits.

D Dana Kaur 1 month ago
Oh yeah, Black Friday is one of their big ones. They usually have some decent promos for dedicated servers, VPS, and often throw in free public cloud credits. Keep an eye out around November.
2
G Greg M. 1 month ago
they definitely do! I got a good discount on a VPS last Black Friday. also look out for 'Soldes d'hiver' and sometimes 'rentrée scolaire' offers too.

trying to apply a promo code for a new domain name, but can't find where to put it in the cart. am i blind?

A Andre 2 months ago
Nah, you're not blind. It's usually one of the very last steps in the shopping cart process, right before you finalize payment. Keep going through the checkout and you should see a field for it.
2
G Greg C. 2 months ago
yeah, it's right at the end. make sure it's for a new service too, promo codes rarely work for renewals unless it's a specific loyalty thing.
